3DS surpasses PS3 in lifetime sales in Japan

Nintendo 3DSFollowing another strong week of sales in Japan, Nintendo’s 3DS system has surpassed Sony’s PS3 home console in lifetime sales.

According to Media Create, the 3DS sold 211,499 units between December 3 and December 9, bringing its lifetime total in Japan to 8,799,378 units. This is about 80,000 more than the PS3 which has sold 8,716,260 systems in its lifetime in Japan. This feat is even more impressive when you take into account the 3DS released about five years after the PS3.
