The Nintendo 3DS is booming in Japan. After getting off to a relatively slow start, sales of the 3DS and 3DS XL have now surpassed the 10 million mark.
As of January 6, the handheld sold 10,068,192 units, according to Enterbrain. The system debuted in Japan on February 26, 2011.
Animal Crossing: New Leaf is said to have played a huge role in the system’s success. Given that as of December 3, 2012, 8,799,378 units had been sold, that’s a pretty significant jump. And the 3DS doesn’t seem to show any signs of slowing — especially with big titles like Monster Hunter 4 and the just announced Pokemon X and Pokemon Y on the horizon.
If you don’t own a 3DS yet, you should definitely get on board.
